When I was in Los Angeles a couple of weeks ago, I made a beeline for my favorite store in The Grove: Nordstrom. Say what you will about Nordie’s, but they have excellent customer service and a nice variety of products. I also get tons of great sale items there. And for fittings and bras, I absolutely swear by their lingerie department (the one at Nordstrom in San Francisco is superb, too, especially a lady named Nora Caldwell); Nordstrom’s professionals are the only ones I let near my girls.

I knew I needed a new sports bra, as…Well, I’ve just been wearing a normal bra for exercise. I know, I’m bad. But I hate the plain band of fabric that most sports bras are, and as a 38DD, I need a little more support to stop me from bouncing around during exercise.

A bra consultant named Kim helped me find a couple of candidates to try. She warned me that the first, a Donna Karan Intimates Underwear Underwire Sports Bra, tends to run quite small. Kim was right; the 38DD didn’t fit. The second bra, a Natori Underwire Sports Bra 334439, was just right. The only surprising thing was that the 38D fit me better than the 38DD. Either the weight I’ve lost between my last fitting (in June) and now has shrunk my cup size, or the Natori cups run large. Try a size smaller than you’d expect if you decide to test this model.

I haven’t worn the Natori yet, but will later this morning. I’ve saved it, along with my new running shoes, as something to make the new personal trainer regime less of a drag for me. We’ll see how it goes.
