I may be attempting to kick my arse into good health, but I’m still quite lazy. So let me quote from this blog’s About page:
Over the last few years, I have lost more than 100 pounds. I still have weight to lose, and am embarking on an all-out effort to become as fit and full of health as possible. I’m enlisting the help of a personal trainer, fitness experts, and doctors of various disciplines to help me learn about what it takes to reach optimum health – and motivate me to get and stay there. This blog will also help keep me going, learn from what others have experienced, and (if I am lucky) help others to get healthier, too.
I was also going to say something along the lines that I’m hoping a blog like this will shame me from ever eating ice cream again, but I wouldn’t want anyone to take that seriously. I know from my progress thus far that it is far easier to lose weight when one resists the urge to demonize certain foods as ‘bad’ and to lionize other foods as ‘good’. Moderation has been a key to my progress, and will help me to stay healthy, too. I don’t want to live in a world where I can’t eat ice cream, but I also don’t want to live in one where I eat it so often that it is no longer a treat.

Thanks, Ben – I am sure you’re right. I’ve found that I’ve achieved the most success with fitness when I’ve been just that little bit obsessed with it, and made it an integral part of my daily life. This blog should help in that regard. I truly appreciate the support and encouragement from someone as fit (in body and mind) as you.

Brigitte, thank you – that means so much to me. You have known me since I was a moody teenager, so I’m glad you’re getting to see a more improved version now. Can’t wait to see you when I come home.
